Pele , Maradona , George Best , Zinedine Zidane , Franz Beckenbauer, Eusebio , Johan Cruyff , Lionel Messi , Cristiano Ronaldo and the list goes on. Football is world famous and one of the most playing sports. I respect the game and its players. Every player is unique and holds an important place. But my personal favourite is Cristiano Ronaldo. There are many great players but I love C-Ron more.

In early 20’s a girls trip to Mathura sounds bit odd. Not some lavish trip to Goa, against all odds..Yes! It was a journey to Mathura, Vrindavan and Govardhan. With my best friend it was the most augmented holiday. A 3-4 days trip to the state of Uttar Pradesh (India), to the sacred city Mathura. Exploration of our own lands is equally fascinating as flying to the foreign countries. Unearthing the history of our own country, learning about its people, is significant to me just like the curiousity to know about the world. I like exploring the beauty of ancient architectural set up along with its intricate creations. With the right companion it was enriching, spiritual and exploring kind of period of travelling.
People come over here to experience the pious beginnings of the Hindu God (Lord Krishna).
Literally everything in Mathura is coloured in the hues of Krishna.
Mathura attracts thousands of pilgrims especially on the occasion of Janamashatami ( Lord Krishna’s birthday) and Holi of Barsana (a small village in mathura). Its holi is world famous.
Mathura has numerous small and big temples. It is situated on the banks of river yamuna so it has 25 holy ghats.
Mathura was also once Buddhist centre with around 20 monasteries. However continuous attacks by Afghans and Mughals left the city in ruins. Most of the ruins are now preserved in the archaeological museums.
# ISKCON (The International society for krishna consciousness) Vrindavan
Shri Krishna-Balaram Mandir is a Gaudiya Vaishnava temple in the holy city of Vrindavan. It is one of the main ISKCON temples in India and internationally.
I simply enjoyed there. Those chantings of hare krishna, kirtan and dancing- it was having happy vibes. I didn’t want to leave that place. I could easily sense the aura of peace there.

It’s is known as Bhagvad-gita temple because there is a pole on which whole bhagvad-gita( Hindu scripture) is written.
# Shri Krishna Janmbhoomi
This temple is built around the prison cell where the ancient Lord Krishna is said to have been born. It is situated next to Kesava Deo Temple and a mosque, cameras and phones are banned inside the complex by the government. Security is very strict.
The original temple was built by Vajranabha, then later rebuilt by Vikramaditya. The temple is said to have been destroyed and rebuilt 17 times in its history. Today the temple is one of the most frequently visited temples in India.
This temple is again too beautiful and wonderfully built.
# Government Museum Mathura
It is the most underrated place. But it’s worth visiting. I was amazed to see the traces of Buddhism and Jainism there. Truly fascinating collection it is having. The museum houses artifacts pottery, sculptures, paintings, and coins primarily from in and around Mathura, plus discoveries made by noted colonial archaeologists like Alexander Cunningham, F. S. Growse, and Fuhrer.
Artifacts are 3000 years old and the depth of the collection is surprising.

Well river yamuna has 25 ghats but Vishram ghat is considered the holiest.
# Shri Nath jee temple (Govardhan)
According to the legend, the Srinathji (Shrinathji is a form of Hindu god Krishna, manifest as a seven-year-old child) deity self-manifested from stone and emerged from the Govardhan Hills. Historically, the idol of Shrinathji was first worshipped at Govardhan hill, near Mathura . Shrinathji was originally worshipped in a humble shrine at Jatipura village near Govardhan and subsequently, moved to a larger temple on top of the hill.
There is tunnel from which Shri nath ji went to Nathdwara(Rajasthan). That tunnel from the top of Govardhan hill opens in the town of Nathdwara.

# Mukharvind temple
Mukharvind temple of Shrinathji is at the base of Giriraj Govardhan. Hundreds of devotees visit daily and worship with milk and flowers etc. Many begin their Parikrama (revolving around sacred place) of Giriraj Govardhan (hill) from this point. Mukharvind of Shrinathji is decorated and worshipped every evening. It is believed to be alive with his presence.
This shop has mouthwatering sweets and world famous Mathura’s pede (indian sweets) were also good. They also make samosa (indian snack) in pure ghee stuffed with cottage cheese, dry fruits and basic samosa filling.
There are still so many things left unexplored in Mathura. Hopefully , will explore next time. It felt so alive with the divine vibrations and energy. What I brought from this trip is preserved in my heart with me and it cannot be expressed through words.

Who doesn’t adore the beauty of flowers! Flowers are medicine for soul. Amazing gift of nature. But, what if few petals of flower get damaged? We will throw them and consider that there is nothing left. What is this lifeahead? Well this is an incredible idea, an initiative of my mentor, friend, teacher.. Nidhi Sahu( Psychologist). She is a dedicated, excellent counselor. Many workshops on parenting, adolescent problems,etc are conducted by her efficiently. Lifeahead will focus on life skills. It’s a group of people who have overcame the setbacks of life and experts who will help the one’s who are going through something hard in life by some efforts in different forms. Sigh of relief! Supreme Court’s decision to give NEET (National eligibility cum entrance test) a green signal is good. It’s not only about NEET but it’s about reducing the unethical practices of private seat allotments and rampant corruption in medical fraternity. Due to lack of proper awareness and information, the doctor scene is pitiful these days. People are so desperate to do medicine, they don’t even feel shame in such unethical ways, malpractices and they even migrate to abroad to study there because it’s cheaper in abroad than here. There is nothing to be proud about being a doctor in these ways. Infact it’s disrespectful and such medical practitioners are blot and hindrance. About 77% Indian students with a medical degree in foreign universities in the past 12 years have failed to clear the screening test conducted by Medical Council Of India. It is indicative of poor standards of medical education in some foreign countries. India is the only country that authorises, as official policy, the sale of medical seats by private medical colleges, implicitly accepting the principle that the ability to pay, and not merit, is what counts. Further, in the absence of any system of third party certification by way of an entry or, more importantly, an exit exam — which could guarantee the qualities and competencies a doctor must possess before starting to practice — many medical colleges are producing quacks. The tragedy is that we all know about it.
The issue is not just about illegal capitation fees that range from Rs.50 lakh to Rs.1 crore for a MBBS seat. The process of admission is itself flawed with a walk-in system for those with money but for the others, it is a harrowing tale of expensive tuitions and writing 15 to 20 examinations across the country — a process that once again excludes and deters several.

Archaic and outmoded rules, regulations and eligibility conditions requiring a capital base of more than Rs.150 crore have made the establishment of medical colleges a business proposition. Combined with no incentives for quality education, there has been a twofold impact: 1.commercialising the medical profession, where “recouping” the investment is the prime concern for the investor and graduating doctor alike; and 2. an aggravated shortage of doctors in three ways: 15 per cent of those in the Non-Resident Indian quota within the 50 per cent management quota do not practice in India; of the remaining 35 per cent, many do not practice, migrate abroad or establish themselves in cities for better incomes; and, poor training makes many “unemployable” as amplified in a provider survey. Clearly, the commercialisation of medical education is one of independent India’s biggest mistakes.
Therefore, the solution of “flooding the market with doctors by opening more medical colleges” to contain the menace of capitation fees without in the first instance, overhauling the regulatory framework related to quality of instruction, faculty development, better salary structures and banning private practice, etc has little merit.

These rampant malpractices are being carried out since many years. So, what about those Undeserving so called “qualified” doctors who have entered the medicine and healthcare?
Government should take a step to make doctors take a test every year to assess if they have updated their skills. Doctors who fail could be given a grace time of a year or two (and multiple attempts) to pass the test, failing which, their licence should be suspended.(Strictly)
There are no short cuts or easy solutions to what has become a highly political issue.
Any shifts in the status quo will be bitterly opposed, so deeply entrenched are the vested interests. But the time has come for the government to act as the acute shortage in human resources is the main barrier to achieving universal health coverage. The more the delay in addressing the critical challenges facing human resources for health on grounds of political expediency, the greater the social, political and financial costs this country will have to bear in the years ahead. Prudence lies in stemming the rot by decisive action and before it is too late.
Any person having degree of doctoral and who wears white coat should not be allowed in this profession. Screening is must. Regulatory authority must play critical role.
What happened to the conscience of people ? People are so blinded by their pursuit, that for their selfish motives and greeds they can risk lives of people by becoming a doctor.
If NEET is implemented uniformly and few other measures are being taken strictly in this regard to improve the (quality) health of “medicine and healthcare.” There is some hope of victory. Only Merit should be the basis of medical admission, selection of regulators and medical fraternity.

Punjab and Haryana, these states that have been in the news for discrimination against the girl child. But a Chandigarh born girl did something remarkable and made India proud. The girl is Rukmani Riar. Things that are special about her :
She was 24 years old when in her first attempt she cracked Civil Services Examinations and acquired second position. (2011)
She was unable to cope with the pressure of moving to a boarding school and failed in Class 6th while studying at the Sacred Heart School in Dalhousie, this story is an evidence that failures are the stepping stones to success.
‘Ever since I failed in Class VI, I am scared of failure. It can be very depressing. But after that incident, I made up my mind that I won’t sulk and complain. I will work hard and give things my best. I believe that if one decides to persevere and come out of that phase, nothing can stop you achieving success,’ advised Rukmani.
She did her 12th from Shivalik Public School, Mohali.
She holds a master’s degree in social entrepreneurship from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai where she consistently topped her class.
She joined the School of Social Sciences affiliated to Guru Nanak Dev University in 2005 and passed out in 2008 getting the gold medal with distinction.
She did not opt for any special coaching classes for the CSE . She said the notes prepared during graduation helped in her performance. If you are consistent and perseverant in your preparation, you can crack the exam without coaching,’ suggested the topper, who chose political science and sociology as her main subjects for the exam.
“Set your targets and work hard to achieve the desired result,” Riar said.
She wanted to carry out social service. She was fired by social service. Her father BS Riar, a lawyer in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, suggested that she should try the civil services if she wanted to make a mark at helping society. Her mother is a housewife.
Rukmani wanted to become an IAS officer so that she can use her experience and training to serve the nation in a better way.
‘I always wanted to serve the nation,’ she said. And you can well believe her – she has interned with the Planning Commission of India and NGOs in Karnataka and Maharashtra over the last few years, researching and understanding various social policies and finding ways to help them make a positive impact upon society.
Rukmani loves to write poetry. She is a prolific writer . She is a believer of hard work and dedication. Her message is : consistency, hard work, and persistence is the key to success. Go for it. If I can do it, everybody else can.
Mother nature is not asking for help, it’s warning us by the adverse climatic changes. These are results of the human deeds. Reading and hearing frightful news concerning the environment makes me utterly depressed and at the same time they inspire me to do something. Any matter related to nature always draw my attention and motivates me to change my way of living for the betterment of environment. One can see from space how the human race has changed the Earth. Nearly all of the available land has been cleared of forest and is now used for agriculture or urban development. The polar icecaps are shrinking and the desert areas are increasing. At night, the Earth is no longer dark, but large areas are lit up. All of this is evidence that human exploitation of the planet is reaching a critical limit. But human demands and expectations are ever-increasing. But, here are some conversions that we must do at our level first. These simple adoption of habits in our daily lives can make a difference. We should play our respective roles.
Turn of any lights and electronics when they are not being used.Let hair and clothes dry by themselves if possible.Set the washing mashine to lower temperatures.
Create a compost heap in your garden or use a compost bin. This helps recycle food waste and other biodegradable material.
When going shopping, make it a habit to bring your own eco-bags and say no to plastic bags as much as possible
Plant more and more trees. Join as many tree planting trips as you can.
If possible, try carpooling to work, business presentations, events, or even to run errands. Think of ways you can reduce the number of trips you make using your car. Reduce emissions from vehicles by walking or cycling. These are not just great alternatives to driving, they are also great exercise.
Use public transport, when you can, for everyday travel.
Send your drinking bottles, paper, used oil, old batteries and used tires to a depot for recycling or safe disposal; all these very cause serious pollution.
Do not pour chemicals and waste oil on to the ground or into drains leading to bodies of water.
Wherever possible, separate biodegradable and recyclable waste from non-biodegradable and work to reduce the amount of non-biodegradable or recyclable waste.
Reduce the amount of meat you eat, or even better become vegetarian.
Don’t let water run when you don’t use it. For example while brushing your teeth or when you shampoo your hair. It will save a lot of water! Run dishwasher and washing mashine only with full loads.Use environmentaly friendly cleaning/household products.You find them in regular stores and they are not even much more expensive. They won’t pollute the water with toxins.

At ABP Live news channel, their daily news bulletin was going on and suddenly breaking news started flashing. That was results day of UPSC 2014. News- This time girls have bagged the top four positions, i was normal. They unraveled the names of toppers ,i was normal.Then they displayed the photographs of toppers, i was normal. But when i came to know that Ira Singhal is first differently abled candidate from general category who got first rank in the civil services examination : it was not normal. Her story is profusely inspiring not only for the civil services world but also for the normal world. She never glorified her special needs (she is victim of a medical condition Scoliosis ); she explained that her hands have restricted movement and her spinal cord is of S- shaped and not straight. But, she maintained that she feels normal about herself. She told that everyone has one problem or another, only thing is that her problems are more visible than others. She is very much normal than me , infact much normal than all of us. She is not a stereotyped topper. She reads a lot of novels and watches TV series of US/UK. According to her, one should study smartly by understanding and analyzing stuffs rather than being glued to books all the time.She has transformed herself into someone who is so much engrossed in learning, knowing and exploring what is around her that she has no time to bother about her physical condition or anything else.
The pragmatic Ira had some suggestions for the students : ” First get a professional degree , get a few years of work experience and then take the UPSC exam if you want to. And no matter what you do, always remember to have a life.”
She holds an MBA from Delhi University’s Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), and a B.E. in computer engineering from Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT).
Since 2010, She had cracked CSE in her every attempt (4 attempts – cracked all- secured first position in 4th attempt)
She was refused a postingbecause she suffers from curvature of the spine. She filed a case in the Central Administrative Tribunal, which she won after 4 years, after which she was given a post.She has also taught Spanish for a year, has been a manager in Cadbury India and a marketing intern the Coca Cola Company. She was posted as Assistant Commissioner in the Customs & Excise department of the Indian Revenue Services, but will likely move to an IAS posting soon.
Despite topping one of the toughest competitive exams in the world, she told it was just another exam. She told that an exam cannot decide who you are. Life is more that an exam. She got 99.7 percentile in CAT. She told that Maths is tough or easy depending on your perception. It’s all in mind. She felt that a better teacher can make Maths easier and fun.
She knows various languages like English, Hindi, German, Spanish.
Her interview radiated positive vibes only.Normally, these interviews of successful people are focused on their struggle and hardship. But, the interview of this brilliant lady was different. It was full of hope, encouragement and motivation to see beyond our own problems. How she has turned her problems into opportunities was worth admiring. Her positive frame of mind is amazing. She is calm and composed. She has never back down in life when so called normal people often don’t achieve even an iota of what she has accomplished till date
As an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, she has to do more of office works and she always wanted to do good for the people by doing more field works. She wants to serve people and that’s why she wanted to be an IAS officer. Mr. Ravish Kumar asked whether she wanted to prove something through UPSC. It was expected she would say something like she wanted to show people that her physical condition didn’t came in way of her dream or something like that. But it was pleasant surprise when she told that she had nothing to prove. She wanted to be IAS officer as this will give her a bigger opportunity to serve people.
She hangs out with her friends like every other person. She is effortless genius of her life.She is an epitome of character and strength.
Her message : ” While struggling through all the insecurities of life, just remember that this too shall pass.”
She never considered her deformity to be a challenge. It all depends on how big you consider it to be a problem.
“My single aim is to help society and i am not after power, money or success. I don’t lie to myself,” Ira said.
I have tremendous amount of respect in my heart for this lady .I wish Ira ma’am all the happiness and all the very best for her journey. And i love you “meri living legend.”

I am General category and I support reservations. Let’s shed some light on this. A general category student with three digit rank xxx in a competative exam couldn’t make it to the xyz premier institute but a reserved category student with a telephone number type digit rank xxxxxxx in the exam gets the call for admission.
IS IT TRUE MERITOCRACY? !
A reserved category person earning crores per annum needs any kind of aid? Certainly not.
IS IT EQUALITY ?! Alas!
Reservation degrades the system, be it jobs promotion,selection,admissions in colleges and so on .
The chief architect of Indian constitution B.R. Ambedkar reluctantly agreed to reservation in the belief that it would be discontinued 10 years after the adoption of the Constitution. Even he wanted “reservations to end in ten years”.

Quote:From the outset, the Constituent Assembly laid out clearly its objectives and philosophy for the new constitution. Several of the framers’ main goals, articulated in the “Objectives Resolution,” included guarantees of equality, basic freedoms of expression, as well as “adequate safeguards…for minorities, backward and tribal areas, and depressed and other backward classes.” These principles guided the delegates throughout the Constitution-making process.
The Assembly set up a special Advisory Committee to tackle minority rights issues. This committee was further divided into several subcommittees. The Subcommittee on Minorities focused on representation in legislatures (joint versus separate electorates and weightings), reservation of seats for minorities in cabinets, reservation for minorities in the public services, and administrative machinery to ensure the protection of minority rights. After extensive research and debate, the Subcommittee on Minorities drafted a report of its findings for submission to the Advisory Committee. The latter supported most of the Subcommittee’s recommendations.

Quote:Significantly, Article 15, which prohibits discrimination, also contains a clause allowing the union and state governments to make “any special provision for the advancement of any socially and educationally backward classes of citizens or for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.” This language was added in 1951 within weeks of a Supreme Court decision outlawing quotas in school admissions. The speed of the amendment is indicative of the strong political support for reservations, Nehru’s personal views notwithstanding.
Similarly, Article 16, calling for “equality of opportunity in matters of public employment,” contains clauses permitting the “reservation of appointments or posts in favour of any backward class of citizens which, in the opinion of the State, is not adequately represented in the services under the State” and another allowing “reservation in matters of promotion” for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes
A separate section of the Constitution, “Special Provisions Relating to Certain Classes,” requires the reservation of seats in the “House of the People,” or Lok Sabha, and the Legislative Assemblies of the states for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. The numbers of reserved seats are determined by the proportion Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe members to the general population, based on population estimates from the most recent decennial census. The President of India and the Parliament, in consultation with the state governments, determine the list of groups qualifying as Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and “backward classes.”
Several safeguards accompany these provisions for reservation. First, the Constitution originally required the reservation of seats in the Lokh Sabha and state legislatures to end after ten years. After five amendments, the policy is now set to expire on January 25, 2010. Secondly, regarding the reservation of jobs, Article 335 of the Constitution mandates that the “claims of the members of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes shall be taken into consideration, consistently with the maintenance of efficiency of administration.” Finally, a National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes was created to investigate, monitor, advise, and evaluate the progress of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes under the schemes aimed at the socio-economic development of these groups. Another Commission was also created to investigate the conditions of the socially and educationally backward classes.

Inspite of slavery of 200 years we Indians have cracked milestones,created history , proved ourselves in every direction. We are capable.
Reforms are needed to bring true meritocracy in India.Amendments are must.
